Hogan Lovells Dim Sum Toys Workshop won Good Citizenship Awards with Yum Cha Together events

Every year, Hogan Lovells, an international law firm, asked all members of the firm to contribute 25 hours of their time in citizenship. Many of our colleagues have met, or far exceeded, that expectation. We have people offering pro bono services to assist individuals or small NGOs who are in need, running awareness events to promote inclusion, organising activities to raise fund for our community partners,  volunteering for underprivileged groups and taking steps to preserve the environment.

To recognise and celebrate these achievement, we launched the 2017 Good Citizenship Awards. We asked for nominations of projects and individuals that have made a difference in the community through citizenship in 2016.

For Good Citizenship Awards, we recognised projects that made a positive impact in the community. The Dim Sum Toys Workshop (organized by social enterprise Yum Cha Together得閒去飲茶and Toy Library Elderly 腦玩童俱樂部) was voted as the sole winner by our Citizenship committee for various reasons:

-       Creative: a combination of making toys with a good cause, visiting the elderly, playing games and learning the dim sum culture.

-       Good commitment: having 15+ staff to commit two Saturday mornings.

-       Also this workshop attracted a good mixture of lawyer-staff and non-lawyer staff to participate. We always encourage this kind of interaction between our staff, whether you are lawyers, secretaries, librarians...

-       Impact: we were impressed when we heard positive feedback from the elderly centre (in particular hearing that they now have more confidence in working with corporate volunteers) and from our participants on how this brings their family closer.

The prize was money coupons for spending at social enterprises. The team had a celebration lunch at Happy Veggies  樂農素食館 in Wanchai.

So we had fun, had good food (dim sum + veggie lunch), and hopefully we had also contributed to the community!
